WHAT IS THE SAT?



The SAT is an aptitude test conducted by College Board (US). The SAT score is one of the required criteria for admission to undergraduate programs in the US and worldwide. The test intends to aid Undergrad Schools assess the potential of the applicants for advanced study. There are two types of SAT® Exams:

1. SAT Reasoning Test or SAT I

2. SAT Subject Test or SAT II




FEATURES OF THE SAT I



The SAT I exam is conducted entirely in English. A standardized test, SAT I measures Verbal, Mathematical and Writing skills. The examination is entirely a paper-based test.



FORMAT OF THE SAT I



The SAT is a 3 hours and 45 minutes test with two 10- minute breaks and consists of the following three areas:

1. Reading
2. Writing
3. Math (No Calculator)
4. Math (Calculator)
The essay section is optional.



THE SAT II




SAT Subject Tests are designed to measure a student’s knowledge and skills in particular subject areas, as well as his ability to apply that knowledge. Students who want to apply to the Top 15-20 universities in the US are required to take the SAT Subject Test.

The examination is entirely a paper-based test. The test is scored on a maximum of 800. SAT II Subject tests are one-hour tests offered in the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Maths Level 1, Maths Level 2, English Literature, US History, World History and Languages.



HOW TO REGISTER AND OTHER DETAILS



To register for the SAT you have to visit www.collegeboard.org. There are specified dates of the exam. You have to register accordingly.

The examination fee for the SAT I is $51, payable at the time of registration for the exam.

SAT FAQ's



    Does admission to universities depend only on SAT® scores?

It is one of the various criteria that the admission council looks at. However, a good SAT® score does improve your chances of getting admission and financial aid.

    What if I miss the deadline for registering for the SAT®?

You can go to the test centre directly with your passport, photo and take the test as a Standby option if seats are available. And additional fees of $11.25 would be charged.

    How do I pass on my score to the college i want to apply to?

The universities only accept official scores sent directly by College board. Scores to four colleges can be sent free of cost from the time of SAT® registration to one week after the SAT® exam. Subsequently, for each score report sent to a college, you would have to pay $11.00.

    What is the cost/registration fee for the SAT® I and SAT® II?

The registration fee for taking SAT® I is $91. The registration fee SAT® II is $77.50

    How do I register for the SAT®?

You can register online or by mail. The detailed information about registering for the SAT® can be found at www.collegeboard.com

    How many times can I take the SAT®?

SAT can be taken unlimited number of times.. (It is highly advisable not to appear for SAT® too many times as it may affect the applicant’s candidature).

    What is the validity of the SAT® exam?

Your SAT® score will be valid for 5 years after from the date the test was taken.
